WK2 Close A Circuit With Alternative Switch

“Overwhelmed” is the theme of the week.  P-Comp is one of the classes you spent hours preparing (on videos and lab exercise), and still go “huh?” a lot in class. This week, my new toy Arduino Uno is here.

First, to get Amazon to ship this thing within a weeks seems impossible.  I waited and waited and waited more, then had to cancel the order and went to NYU Bookstore to pick up another package. Given that I have never been a fan of electronics of any sort, I was kind of intrigued by how tiny it is. In class, because of time constrain, Arlene roughly introduced the breadboard, the Arduino, and other elements in the kit.  Needless to say, it was confused in class as to which wire to use, and which power bus hole to plug in; it was confused even more after the class when you are on your own. I wish Arlene would use slides with explanation in class, so that we have something to go back to after class.

So, I started to read the project manual comes with the kit.  It turns out it is quite straight-forward as long as you know the structure of the breadboard and the theory behind the circuit.  This week’s assignment is to close a circuit with a different switch.

This is what I accomplished in class with a push switch and LED:

As long as you know the relationship between diodes, power and ground, resistor always connects with positive sides of diode, and how to position the switch within the path, then it is easy to add another switch.

And, change the type of switch.

Tada!

(UPDATE)

Dear WordPress and Dreamhost:

Please don’t ever scare me ever again. What do you mean by “Your site will be back within 24-48 hrs”?!  This is a era of Internet, everything should happen within a flick second.  So what I accidentally don’t have a valid email on file? You do not create a new email address without my knowledge and sent all the verification link over.  My grades is partially depending on your competence to maintain a normal working blog.  If you ever suspend my account again, I won’t hesitate to switch back to blogger.com and look for another domain host. Do you hear me?!!

  1. Thanks Caroline, you did a great job creatively implementing new switches. Hopefully this is acclimating you to following along with the labs on the class web site.
